During the surgical procedure, a sterile surgical drape can be used to cover the patient and its surrounding area to create and maintain a sterile field, with the aim of eliminating the spread of microorganisms between non sterile and sterile areas. Since draping is very important in preparing a patient for surgery, it must be done correctly. Below we will introduce how to drape the patient.

The area around the patient and table should be as far away from the equipment as possible to prevent any contamination of the surgical drape. The patient's skin should be kept dry before draping, and any drapes should be handled as little as possible, without flapping or waving in the air. Firstly, people who have been scrubbed should stay away from the operating table to avoid contaminating their sterile gown and gloves. Secondly, carry the surgical drape one at a time on the operating table, remove the tape, and the scrubbed person should not reach over the operating table or lean on the patient to place the drapes. Thirdly, the area closest to the scrub doctor should be draped first. Before covering the patient, the surgical drape should be held high enough to prevent contact with any non sterile area. The distal edge of the surgical drape should be allowed to fall naturally. The area below the waist is considered unsafe.

After laying all the surgical drapes, start laying the antimicrobial incise drape. Once all surgical drapes have been placed, they should remain in place until the surgery is completed. After the surgery, dispose all surgical drapes into appropriate bags.
